Django-NYC August Meeting Roundup

This month's django-nyc was hosted at Huge Inc and they couldn't have been more hospitable. Thanks to Loren Davie, co-founder of django-nyc, for hooking us up with the new location and for everyone at Huge for putting together a great environment for the meetup. We had food (I think I even saw some hummus somewhere along the amazing spread), drinks (aka beers) and a great presentation space. Oh, and we talked about NewFormsAdmin - including a great intro to nfa from Loren Davie, as well as a special presentation by Brian Rosner who provided a sneak peek presentation of his forthcoming DjangoCon presentation "What's New in NewForms-Admin".

Loren gave the first presentation on new forms admin. It was the basic "NFA 101" introduction. It was an excellent presentation and kicked off a great discussion on the simplicity of upgrading your apps to be nfa compliant but also some of the backwards incompatible changes you need to be aware of.

Then we had a special sneak peek at Brian Rosner's djangocon presentation "What's new in New Forms Admin". I pinged Brian the day before to ask if he was interested in running through is presentation to receive some feedback on it and give it a test run. So we used ustream.tv and did a "live from brian's office" type presentation where Brian presents and I ask some questions along the way. Brian did a great job so far, (only 1/3 of his presentation is completed) and together with Loren's presentation we had a great discussion regarding New Forms Admin, people's experiences, etc. We also mentioned Brian's excellent newforms-admin migration post/screecast. Below I've embded Brian's presentation for your viewing pleasure.

Some of the other items discussed during the meetup were James Bennet's book Practical Django Projects, This Week in Django new Twitter account twiderrific, django-nyc member Jeffrey Forcier's upcoming book co-authored with Paul Bissex and Wesley J. Chun "Python Web Development with Django ", Jeff Croft's "Top ten things that suck about Django, revisited", and of course Djangocon and the recent push for Django 1.0.

Thanks again to everyone who came out. I think we were close to 30 this time, but maybe I rounded up on that one? To the doctor who had to leave during the meeting because of a call (or maybe he got bored?) if you read this please email me. I'd love to know what your doing with django and how we can possibly discuss some of your work, or interests in an upcoming meeting.
